Dear Resident of Jacksons Creek Ward,

I am writing to you to formally introduce myself as a candidate for the Jacksons Creek Ward in the City of Hume elections to be held in November this year.

My family and I have lived within Hume City Council since 1968.

I grew up in Broadmeadows and as a newly married couple my husband Steve and I lived in Craigeburn, we then moved and raised our three children Adrian, Elizabeth and Daniel in Sunbury.

I am a trained Laboratory Technician having worked with Metropolitan and McKay’s Dairy and Note Printing Australia (Mint). I have also been employed as a Bank Teller with the Commonwealth Bank. For the past 12 years I have been successfully running my own home based business “Jan’s Engraving” with continued growth.

I have been involved with Girl Guides for 35 years and am currently the Region Leader for the Black Forest Region. I have been associated with the Sunbury Agricultural Show for 20 years and recently been associated with: Sunbury Chamber of Commerce, Empowering Sunbury, Sunbury Resident’s Association Inc and Sunbury Kangaroos Junior Football Club.

As a small business woman and an active community member I hear many people say our Council could do more to meet the needs of the people within Jacksons Creek Ward.

Consultation with residents is fundamental but sadly not enough. I am keen to hear the issues which you believe are important.

Some of the issues I believe are becoming a concern are:

  • The need for a modern Multi Function Complex incorporating Sports facilities; I see this complex being available to our local community to accommodate Debutante Balls, School formals or large communal gatherings. It can also be hired out as purpose built Seminar venues earning income for our community.
  • Improvements to our Traffic and Road Management along with improved Street Scapes.
  • Better use of and continued improvements of our community buildings within Sunbury.
  • Improving our Health Services within Sunbury; ie ensuring that the 24 hour Emergency Ward be incorporated at the proposed Sunbury Day Centre.
  • Melbourne Water Tax.

Investigating train station carparking, the feasibility of electrifying Sunbury line, and extra trains impacting on boom gates.

I have attached a quick Resident’s Survey* at the bottom of this letter, which I am asking you to please take your time to complete and return to me.

Your responses will provide me with both a clear outline for what is important to the residents of Jacksons Creek Ward and a focus on what to achieve when representing you on Council.

I thank you for taking the time to read my letter and filling in the Resident’s Survey.

I look forward to meeting you personally in the upcoming months as we head towards the Elections in November.

If you wish to see my Calendar of Events in which I will be attending, please visit my website: www.janward.com.au or ring me directly on 0401 787 920.

Kindest regards
Janette (Jan) Ward
